Hang a sec there David. The FX1/Z1 records a 1440x1080 image, which is an anamorphic version of 1920x1080, so the FX1/Z1 record an anamorphic recording. The difference is the source for the recording is not a cropped 4:3 sensor, it is a native 16:9 sensor so the sensor does not limit the quality of the result like a 4:3 one does in cameras like a PD170.

Same with recording 16:9 DV on the FX1/Z1. It still squeezes the 16:9 image back into a 4:3 anamorphic image for recording to tape.
