Apple has made it no secret that the use of the Panny codec produces a 'broadcast quality' HD image - a transport stream - suitable for cable, satelite and compressing even further to disk - say, Windows Media HD - (Quick-time HD ain't gonna happen). But the Panny/Apple situation is the sharing of codecs, not a format, and therein lies the difference. The elimination of one-step in compression is an advantage, you must admit. Panasonic made their decision to share the inner-workings of their code with Apple - that amounts to more than a low hanging fruit ready to pluck - it means efficiency and quality across the edit to broadcast. If you are shooting Panasonic HD or even SD, you should edit with FCP. Where does that leave Sony? Have they shared their code? Apparently not. They have their OWN high-end NLE, XPRI. That's where you'll see this same sort of Panasonic/Apple solution, Sony-style. i.e. In-house while protecting their code. Where does that leave Avid - scrabbling!

I and, I think, many people here wish Cineform the very best. A fantastic product in an ideal spot! If Avid or Adobe don't buy you out...
