Y'know, you can buy a Bluefish444 HD card now for under $8000, and it wouldn't be hard to build a functioning editing computer for another $2K or so to get full quality HD today around $10K. Also, the Canopus HDW1000 will be out this year and will reportedly offer near-full quality HD editing for under $10K. And then there's the Cineform Aspect HD plugin for Adobe Premiere, which makes it possible to do semi-pro HD editing on a system which could be assembled for about $3000 for hardware and software. The era of affordable HD editing is already here; what we don't have yet is a decent low-cost HD (or HDV) camera.
