CineForm's solution is completely software only, so there is no card involved other than using a standard FireWire card necessary for capturing the M2T data. The CineForm codec is a least a order of magnitude higher quality than the source MPEG compression, it is visually lossless (as confirmed in all product reviews and industry people http://www.cineform.com/news/default.htm). Switching out from MPEG is to gain editing performance, and to protect against multiple generation losses that occur in post production workflows. This is a codec designed for production. If you are in the biz you should consider it.
