Not sure about the code, but shifting cell contents is pretty easy. You can right click and insert a column or row, delete a column or row, etc. If that doesn't help, you can can copy and paste. For example, maybe you have a 10x10 table, with the last cell empty (bottom right). You could highlight (by dragging through, shift click/drag, etc) all the cells to be moved and do a simple copy command. Then, highlight all the cells you'd want pasted to (second from top left all the way to bottom right) and do a paste command. That would leave the 1st and second cell the same. You'd then adjust the first cell with the new info. Adjust concept to taste.
