All right! I know the difference between paragraph returns and line breaks in GL's layout window, but it never occured to me to edit them out of the source code. (Duh!) It looked to me like a paragraph was being inserted, and I had checked the source view to make sure there weren't any, but it turns out GoLive had added them in the component page. I removed that, and whaddya know, it looks like somebody actually knew what they were doing! (A very carefully crafted illusion!)
