I am unaware of any BAD black generators, only black generators that do not have enough outputs on them, like Burst Electronics. The only BAD black generator is NO black generator, or the people that try to convince you that you don't need one, and you can loop your cables around somehow to avoid using a genloc signal. These people should be lined up in the streets and executed. These people belong with those that want to "finish" their show in DV, and never use an AJA I/O, Kona, Decklink, CineWave, Aurora, Voodoo, or even AVID.

I most often recommend the Sigma BSG-26N, which comes from the old school AVID mind set (which is where I come from). But the Horita works just fine, the ESE works fine, and of course the expensive ones from Tektronix, Leitch, Ensemble, Videotek, all work fine - even the Burst Electronics works just fine (just not enough outputs !).

I have often seen people trying to spend as little money as possible, and go onto ebay, and find some antique GVG Sync Generator (there are others too) that only have sync, blanking, and subcarrier, and no composite black output.
Just bite the bullet and buy something.
