One item you or Bob may not be aware of is that the HD to Standard Def SDI downconvert card is an option on the HDW-F500 deck.

The one item worth testing is the quality of the two downconverts one from the vtr and the other using the AJA.

One great item using the vtr downconverter is the ability to set up the detail (enhancement) levels for the standard def outputs.
This is quite important for the dubbing the best SD quality downconverter. The F500 has alot of latitude in regards to where you can set the SD outputs levels to.

You also can select three different letterbox modes (13x9,14x9,16x9) ,centercut or anamorphic downconverts out of the F500 downconvert.
