[Greg Jones]
"What drives are recommended?"
According to the AJA Io manual;
"Minimum Disk Storage - 4 ATA/IDE or 4 SCSI drives / Recommended - Apple Xserve RAID"
[Greg Jones]
"Are firewire drives fast enough?"
again from the AJA Io manual;
"Note: FireWire drive solutions are not supported in use with AJA Io. Since Io connects to the host PowerMac via FireWire and uses the FireWire bus bandwidth extensively, it cannot also be used for storage - at the same time. You can however attach and use FireWire drives on a PowerMac whenever Final Cut Pro is not in use."
On this forum we have been discussing using a firewire card to capture uncompressed to DV or photojpeg on firewire drives. Apple doesn't even officially support firewire drives for capture because of it's bus topology and varying vendor specs. Unoffically I have captured from an Io to my PowerBook drive using photojpeg with no problems. Also we use internal IDE raid's, external Medea's, and the Xserve.
