Phil, I'm not sure what the problem is, but you might try a work-around, considering you're so pressed for time. Instead of exporting for ST. try exporting a quicktime movie (actually a FCP movie that is fully rendered, without audio and then import that into ST. This way, you won't have to deal with the render files. It sounds like your losing your hooks to the rendered files.

Again, I'm not sure what you're doing, so I can't get real deep into this (and you don't have time to mess with all the settings or reinstall the program), but perhaps this will help.
