End action Vs Playlist

Hi all,
I'm just wondering... Having looked at a few of the various tutorials out there and becoming familiar with Encore through useage. Why do all the tutorials seem to point in the direction of end actions and overides for setting up the ubiquitous 'Play All' button? I've tried pointing the button at a playlist listing all my timelines and it seems a far simpler and less messy way of doing this particular task. Am i missing something?
