Best setup for 60 page book

Hi, I'm in charge of a highschool yearbook project, and I'm wondering what would be a good workflow for the 5 or 6 students working on this project. Should we be operating with one document, or several combined into a book document? What kinds of efficiency strategies are there for layout and design (templates and the like) that are the most useful? What efficiency strategies are there for getting information in and out with minimal typing (like student names from a database, for instance)?
