To add to Mike (I hope he doesn't mind)

CBR is Constant Bit Rate... It keeps the rate the same whether nothing on the screen is moving or whether everything is moving and fast! At higher bit rates it looks good but the file sizes are rather large and bloated. If your vide is 45 minutes or less a CBR of 7500 will work well (Mike is right... many players choke on 8000 even though the standard calls for 9000 or less)

VBR is Variable Bit Rate... When setting this you are setting the lowest bit rate you want to have. Mike said he sets his at 6500. Well what happens is the converter keeps everything at 65 until alot of movement is on the screen and then it kicks up the bitrate to keep it looking good and then brings it down again when things slowdown.

This saves you alot of space on the DVD enabling you to get more on the disk and keep it looking good! :)

I will say this... I use a program called Procoder (Not cheap but worth it if you need really good quality) from Canopus and I set my VBR at 4500 low and 6500 high and I get AWESOME results! :)
