On another note, since it was me who started that thread in the other forum:
I'm building a new dual Opteron system, to experiment with 'affordable' (for me...) uncompressed HD (24p1080 10-bit) editing.
I'm building an internal RAID 5 array with eight 200MB SATA drives (Maxtor DiamondMax 10) on an Areca 1120 SATA RAID board. I have been waiting for SATA RAID boards to 'grow up', and after having seen preliminary test results for the Areca board I decided to give it a try. It has hardware RAID so the CPU load on the host computer is minimal (1,6% per 100MB/s).
I'm expecting to get over 200MB/s out of it, throughout the drive capacity.
The drives are arriving tomorrow, so I'll keep you posted on my indie HD system.
