When should a company consider production in HD? Is it necessary to communicate to the MTV generation?

We are considering doing a show in HD using the CineAlta 900 Camera. It will be released corporate wide but will be shown in SD on conventional large screens and TV sets in 4:3 ratio.
It will be posted in SD.
While I will agree there is doubt about the quality of the format. My question is: By not using it will we interfere with the message being communicated? I don't think so...
Can we achieve a contemporary edgy look without it and if so will it be more difficult?
It has been put on the table that the cost of producing in HD is nominal when compared to DV. While I know this is not an accurate statement I thought I would come here and bounce it off of you.
I know it is not the only way to create high quality edgy productions.
Just thought I would get some input. Basically bang for the buck and still maintain very high standards. I open it to you for your considered opinion.
Cheers,
Steve
