As a side-note:

I needed to make a hi-res video for use on a laptop with powerpoint. requirements: 1024*768 progressive.

Tried setting up a custom Cinewave sequence preset and it worked: When set to 2 fields, it would keep PAL interlacing, when the sequence is set to progressive, it would automatically de-interlace.

The Cinwave card would play the video to the MAC screen in real time (after render) and to the PAL screen as well, starting top left at PAL res only. Thus the right and bottom was choppewd off.

The final output was exported to Quicktime MJPEG-A, and converted to MPEG-1 at 1024*768 using TMPENC. Played back on the laptop without dropping frames.

Interesting: not one FCP or Cinewave crash, and the Huge array played the uncompressed 1024*768 stream back without dropping frames. Only problem was getting all the settings back to PAL for the next edit.
