By-the-way, you could buy something like the Hauppauge
WinTV-HD card that will allow you to play an HD transport stream right off of your hard drive to an HD monitor at full resolution. At $299 it's not only more convenient than DVHS but it's also a lot cheaper.
A 120 GB firewire drive will hold something like eight or nine hours of 19.4 Mbit/s (broadcast standard) 1080i HD.
