you can find a good selection of several HD and SD i/o solutions for combustion, premiere, and after effects.
With those cards, you can build a very functional, low price HD uncompressed editor. I worked on them several times and the price/performance is outstanding! for 12 grands you get a full 10bit, 444 HD system. Add a nice workstation and the diskarray (PC or Mac based) and you are ready to go. I dislike the cinewave, as it is 8 bit.
furthermore, i strongly recommend to look at the 844/X system from media100. Their system also fits in (half) the budget, is 24P,25,29.97 SD right now, can downscale HD to a enhanced SD (call that offline) and with their HDX2 option (q4/2003), you will be able to extend it to HD1080 uncompressed. This system is really somethin! In SD its a short/longform editor with 8 channels realtime and totsa of helpful extension (colorcorrection, timewarps, geometrics, blurs, keys etc. are all at 8 channel realtime in superb quality).
We have 2 of them here and customers and collegues like them very much.
all the best
