There seems to be post after post about how to put a cheap system together because of the DeckLink. If the DeckLink was FREE, you would still need a $3000 MAC with lots of RAM, good quality monitors, a broadcast TV monitor (like a PVM series Sony), a Digi Beta VTR, or if you use analog VTRs, all kinds of A/D and D/A converters for audio and video, a $500 ATTO SCSI card, and an expensive SCSI drive array (or ATA array like a Medea). All this adds up to A LOT OF MONEY. It drives me crazy when people think that they are going to have a SDI uncompressed editing system for $995 more than the cost of a DV Final Cut Pro system. This is not true, and will not be true for A LONG TIME !!!!! Grant could PAY YOU $995 just to take the DeckLink card, and you will still pay thousands to build a system.
