first time hd (dvcpro hd 720p varicam footage) first time hd (dvcpro hd 720p varicam footage) first time hd (dvcpro hd 720p varicam footage at 23.98)

my first foray into hd. i just took over a project. everything has been captured to a fw800 drive and they gave me the project file. everything plays fine on my old d800. however, i don't get any external video on the 23.98 footage. by what i read in other posts fcp doesn't add pulldown to dvcpro hd footage? i guess i would need an hd card? or is there a setting or trick i missed? i noticed i can get playback on my crt with the external set to cinema display....
