[ Jason Phelps ] Several posts back you guys mentioned going to Peru. Well we have a producer heading to Peru on Sunday with our HD varicam to shoot for a project. He just found out today from his contact in Peru that he needs to bring $10,000 USD for bond to ensure he brings the gear back. To say the least this is stunning news. How did you guys address this issue? I need to know ASAP so he can work this out.

This type of temporary import warranty/bonds is quite common, however, if you have a good import contact, especially one used to working with film crews, I'm sure there are ways around this. It's not, however, my specialty (we have still not brought our VariCam out of Mexico). I know, however, that others have been stopped in customs and been forced to leave similar amounts for equipment that they were bringing temporarily.
