Philip HodgettsRe: OT? T1 vs Cable Modem
by on Nov 24, 2004 at 12:47:27 am

"T1 is a digital communications link that enables the transmission of voice, data, and video signals at the rate of 1.544 million bit per second (Mb/s). Introduced in the 1960s, it was initially used by telephone companies who wished to reduce the number of telephone cables in large metropolitan areas."

Big difference between a "T" series and cable modem - the T series is guaranteed bandwidth whereas Cable is shared within the "block". Cable can be faster download than T1, or it can be slower depending on the type of cable connection and the traffic on the cable block at the time. Upload will always be faster on the T connection.
